Welcome to the Photonics Technology Center in the Electronic and Computer Engineering Department at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.  The PTC, under the direction of Professor Kei May Lau, is an organized research unit within the College of Engineering.   Founded in 2001 with sponsorship from the Innovation and Technology Commission of the Hong Kong Government and LED industry, the Center serves as a focus for the research and development of photonic devices and integrated components.  The Center aims to facilitate the development of optoelectronics and related technologies in the Asia Pacific region.  Emphases will be placed on products of interest to the participating companies.   We perform basic research, design products and processes, conduct experimental studies, fabricate and test prototype devices, and transfer developed technologies to industry.  Our projects mostly involve experimental studies of III-V compound semiconductor materials and devices.  Research activities include: novel device design and modeling, epitaxial growth by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD), materials characterization and analyses, device fabrication and applications.  Researchers and students in our center are encouraged to explore various related areas of research for novel applications.
